Mexican artist Gerardo "Jerry" Bazúa left Top Chef VIP with a reputation for being both explosive and sentimental. For those who knew him primarily as Paulina Rubio's ex, he revealed himself as the owner of a prodigious voice and intense emotions. Now, outside the Telemundo show, he's speaking his truth and has no problem talking about everything.
During the culinary competition, the Sinaloan artist didn't hesitate to show his vulnerability. In an interview with the Latin Times and ENSTARZ Latino, he explained, "I'm very sentimental, honestly. Cooking taught me that we are feelings, that a hot soup is also for the heart," he confessed through tears. He explained that in the reality show's kitchens, he not only learned recipes, but also learned to look in the mirror and discover aspects of his personality that he needs to work on, referring to his clashes with fellow contestants and judges.
"On television, you also say, 'Oh, I don't like that, I don't like seeing myself like that.' But at the same time, you learn, you reconsider. The psychiatric kitchen, as I told you, showed us that we're all different and that where one limps, another is stronger. I cried there, because I learned a lot from others," she recalled.
A proud father
During the conversation, Bazúa spoke proudly of his three children. His two oldest, Gerardo and Sebastián, live in Mexico, with the eldest already attending university in Monterrey. Eros, the son he had with Paulina Rubio, has inherited the spark and charisma of his famous parents.
"Eros is a bullet, he has a super personality," said Bazúa, who assures that each of his children has unique qualities.
The singer emphasized that, despite past differences with his ex-partners, he has managed to maintain an atmosphere of respect and stability. For him, the key is not to lose sight of the fact that the most important thing is for the children to grow up surrounded by love.
While he appealed for balance and love, Paulina Rubio faces a new escalation of tensions with Nicolás "Colate" Vallejo-Nágera, the father of Andrea Nicolás, the Golden Girl's eldest son. The two have been locked in legal disputes for over a decade over custody of the boy, now a teenager. The Spaniard has publicly accused the singer of breaching agreements and hindering his relationship with the child, while Rubio accuses him of attempting to obtain financial benefits at her expense.
Amidst this storm, Bazúa's statements are striking because of the contrast. "Children pay the price for the stupid things we do with our partners. We have to try to ensure that, with or without problems, our children are full of love," the musician reflected.
Between music and cooking
If his time on Top Chef VIP made one thing clear, it's that, for Bazúa, music and cooking share the same ingredient: passion. "Music and cooking are a perfect match. They're always together. Love also enters through the mouth, as I've said from the beginning," he asserted.
The Sinaloan revealed that cooking made him more aware of the importance of small details, patience, and teamwork. Just like with a song, in a dish, every note, or every spice, counts.
"I cried my heart out, because that's when you realize how human you are and how much you can learn from others," he added.
Far from scandals and keeping his personal life "closed away," although he did reveal that he is still married and living in Miami, Bazúa also continues to work on his musical side.
In July, she released Cómo ves , a mariachi song that, she says, is an invitation to love. "It's a song that tells her: how do you see if we join our lives and move in together? It's for anyone who is deeply in love," she explained. Before that single, she released Quiero saber de ti , a romantic norteña. Both productions, made with her friend and producer Ulises Emmanuel, confirm that Bazúa remains faithful to music with a sentimental tone.
He also has some advice for celebrities and non-celebrities alike about their love lives. "Take care of what you have, maintain it. It's yours, it's your treasure," the singer advised during the conversation. At a time when the private lives of celebrities are often exposed in a harsh light, his words resonate as a lesson in serenity.
The regional Mexican singer is determined to keep his battles and important victories out of the public eye. And although Paulina Rubio and Colate's life continues to garner scandalous headlines, Bazúa's statements offer a different perspective: that of a father who, in his own words, learned to ride the waves of life.
