A 16-year-old boy has been accused of slitting the throat of his underage friend in a gruesome murder, allegedly with the intention of escaping his studies in Ghaziabad, India on Monday, Aug. 22.

The 16-year-old suspect, whose identity has been withheld from the public, has been detained by the authorities for allegedly strangling and slitting the throat of his 13-year-old friend, only identified as Neeraj, on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway in Masuri on Monday evening, Aug. 21.

While being interrogated by the authorities, the boy admitted that he had been plotting the murder for the past five months so that he could end up in jail and skip school entirely, India Today reported.

The brutal murder came to light after the body of the minor victim was discovered on a slab near the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

According to the father of the deceased, the accused befriended his son a few days before the incident and began spending time with him every day. On Monday evening, the underage suspect allegedly lured the victim to the murder location on the pretext of watching cars cruise down the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

However, while they were walking to the area, the accused allegedly began strangling the victim. He reportedly proceeded to pick up a jagged piece of glass from a shattered beer bottle and slit his friend's throat. He then threw the boy's remains in some bushes off the expressway and fled the scene, the Times Of India reported.

Hours later, at around 5 p.m. on Monday, police officers received a call informing them that the body of a boy was found near the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Following this, a police team rushed to the spot, identified the body, and notified the victim's parents.

After talking to the victim's parents, the officers began looking for the teen suspect at his residence. However, the accused was not present at his home and his parents had no idea about the incident or his whereabouts. At around 7 p.m., law enforcement finally found the minor suspect near a tea shop outside the Masuri Police Station.

The boy was reportedly planning to surrender if the cops didn't come looking for him.

At the station, the boy confessed to the crime and pleaded not to be beaten up. He revealed that he had been planning to drop out of school, but his parents objected to his decision and forced him to continue his studies.

Wanting to avoid going to school, he began plotting ways to skip his studies. After months of planning, he schemed about murdering his friend so that he would be locked up in jail and halt his schooling. The officers have produced the boy before a court. The underage suspect has been sent to an observation home pending his trial.
