A 15 year old Indian girl, who was allegely raped multiple times by her father for the past 6 years, killed herself to put an end to the alleged abuse, according to reports.

The minor girl, who will not be named, allegedly consumed poison on July 31, in an attempt to end her life. She stayed at home for three days without any treatment before being hospitalised on Aug. 3.

She was initially rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru institute of medical sciences in Imphal, but later reffered to a private hospital in the city, reports said.

The victim suffered multiple organs failures after which she was shifted to the intensive care unit of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, Aug. 21, as reported by the Hindustan Times.

"In spite of the best efforts by doctors, nurses, district child protection unit of Thoubal, social welfare department and the police, the victim succumbed. Both her kidneys had got damaged as a result of consuming poison,” the co-convenor of a public joint action committee (JAC).

A police investigation revealed that the victim's father had raped the minor girl multiple times over the last six years.

The child could not bear the trauma any longer, forcing her to attempt suicide by consuming poison, according to reports.

Childline workers and police spoke to the girl while she was at the hospital, undergoing treatment for her life-threatening internal injuries.

In her statement, the minor victim said that she had initially approached her grandmother for help, but instead of supporting her, the elderly woman covered up the crime and threatened to kill her if she spoke about it to anyone else.

The victim said the abuse did not stop and her father continued to harass her both physically and mentally.

A case was registered at the women police station at Thoubal under section 305 of the Indian Penal Code and section 6 of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, 2012.

The accused father was arrested on Aug. 5 and currently remains in judicial custody, reports said.

An angry mob of villagers is said to have destroyed the suspect's house after the heinous crime came to light.
