Sorry if your team made the list.
Although we are not even halfway through the 2016-17 NFL season, it’s been a disastrous start for numerous teams. Injuries, poor play, and a tough schedule have taken their toll. You can already see these teams preparing for the 2017 NFL Draft.
With that being said, here are 10 teams who should already start thinking about the offseason.
1. New York Jets
Everything that could go wrong pretty much has for Gang Green. Darrelle Revis is hurt, Ryan Fitzpatrick leads the league in interceptions, and the AFC East is getting more difficult to play in. Is it time to put Geno Smith in? It really doesn’t matter. Brandon Marshall has never made the playoffs in his career, and this year is no different.
2. Miami Dolphins
The Ryan Tannehill era should be coming to a close. The Dolphins obsession with high spending off-season’s and overpaying for free agents is a reminder to all of us that you can’t buy a Super Bowl. It’s time for the Dolphins to unload their top players, get value back, and build a new roster through the draft.
3. San Diego Chargers
How many ways can you blow a game in the fourth quarter? Just watch the Chargers. The Chargers have lost four games by just 14 combined points. They can’t even kick a simple field goal to tie the game with two minutes remaining. No, literally, they didn’t even get the kick off. The Chargers are in so much trouble it’s not even funny. The AFC West is no joke either.
4. Cleveland Browns
As always, their season was over before it began.
5. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars just couldn’t live up to the hype. They can’t run the ball, and their biggest problem is giving up big plays, defensively. Yes, they play in a weak AFC South division, but that’s not going to be enough to save their season. The Jaguars are (still) a work in progress.
6. New Orleans Saints
The Saints are the epitome of insanity. They keep trying the same methods over and over again expecting different results, and guess what? It never works. They have more dead salary cap space than any other team in the league, and year in and year out, they have one of the worst defenses. Maybe it’s time to focus on building a defense in New Orleans for a change.
7. Carolina Panthers
By far the biggest disappointment this year. The defending NFC Champions are 1-4 following the Monday Night Loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cam Newton is playing reckless football, running backs are hurt, and this secondary doesn’t resemble anything from last year without Josh Norman.
8. San Francisco 49ers
They can make the change to Colin Kaepernick now if they want, but let’s be honest, it’s not going to make a difference. First year head coach Chip Kelly has a lot of work to do with this young squad, and they have no chance at catching the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West. The 49ers should already be thinking about big roster changes this offseason.
9. Detroit Lions
It’s probably a good idea for the Lions to consider rebuilding. They got an impressive victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5, but at 2-3, they’re not going to overtake the Green Bay Packers or Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North. As usual, the Lions are having problems establishing a running game.
10. Chicago Bears
Speaking of rebuilding, fans in the Windy City won’t tolerate this putrid style of play any longer. The Bears are an atrocious football team with no sense of direction. Jay Cutler still has four years remaining on his contract, and many NFL experts believe it’s just time to release the veteran quarterback. There’s always next season, Bears fans.
