The only thing more hotly anticipated than the Toyobaru sports cars themselves were the seemingly limitless tuning possibilities in the years ahead.
A balanced and lightweight chassis, the only criticism was that the 2.0 liter boxer engine could use a little more gusto. Enter Gazoo Racing.
A longtime motorsports partner with Toyota, Gazoo Racing will unveil its latest Gazoo Racing Sport FR Concept at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed. Many tuners speculated the use of turbocharging or supercharging as the likeliest source of a boost in performance. However, Gazoo's wild creation will utilize both turbo and supercharger for a proper one-two punch.
Thanks to its twincharger system, the Gazoo Racing Sport FR Concept is rated at an incredible 320-hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque, a healthy bump from the standard output of just 200-hp.
Of course, no tuner car isn't going to debut without the obligatory body kit. Gazoo delivers in spades, featuring an aero kit, enormous spoiler, a lowered ride height, larger wheels to fit the new brake kit, and finally new treads as well.
It's a tuner car so we're never going to see this in production, but that's not the point. Gazoo's demonstration is a clear sign of what's possible and a positive sign of what's to come. For the current Scion FR-S/ BRZ owners, good things come to those who wait. Expect your very own bolt-on twincharger kit in the near future.
