President Donald Trump and some of his officials have reportedly convened to discuss the ousting of Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary Alex Azar. Based on the reports, the government is frustrated with the way he is handling the COVID-19 crisis so they want to make big changes and the first step is to replace the secretary.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Azar committed many errors on the onset of the coronavirus pandemic so it has worsened over time. The publication stated that the plans to fire Azar was revealed by six people who have firsthand knowledge of the meeting that took place the past weekend. It was claimed that Medicare administrator Seema Verma and White House coronavirus response coordinator Deborah Birx know about the potential replacement of the HHS head.

Other government officials supposedly have long-standing frustrations against Azar too because, under his leadership, the outbreak was not properly managed. Furthermore, the plan to remove the HHS secretary from his post allegedly started in February when Trump dismissed him as the head of the coronavirus response team and asked Vice President Mike Pence to take over. The POTUS also blamed Azar for his poor management of the COVID-19 crisis even though the president initially ignored the secretary’s warnings about the infection.

Then again, it turned out that the reports are false and President Donald Trump refuted the rumors himself by calling the news “fake.” He said that the media did not even bother asking if it was true and praised Azar for his work and efforts.

“Reports that H.H.S. Secretary @AlexAzar is going to be “fired” by me are Fake News,” the POTUS tweeted on April 27, just a few hours after the reports emerged. “The Lamestream Media knows this, but they are desperate to create the perception of chaos & havoc in the minds of the public. They never even called to ask. Alex is doing an excellent job!”

Finally, deputy White House press secretary Judd Deere also denied that Trump is firing Azar. She said that the speculation about the official is irresponsible and only meant to be a distraction from the government’s response to the pandemic. The HHS spokeswoman, Caitlin Oakley also said that Azar has no time for intrigues because he is really busy.

"The Department of Health and Human Services, under the leadership of Secretary Azar, continues to lead on a number of the President's priorities, Deere told CNN. “Any speculation about personnel is irresponsible and a distraction from our whole-of-government response to COVID-19."
