The repercussions of the FBI’s successful raid of Mar-a-Lago to retrieve allegedly classified documents continue to reverberate against former U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday, as 18 former Trump staffers condemn the President’s statements regarding the documents.

Many former staffers of Donald Trump have insisted that Trump did not declassify many of the documents that he claims to have taken, and some of them have said that Trump did not have the power to issue a blanket declassification in the way that he claims to have done it, according to CNN.

“Nothing approaching an order that foolish was ever given,” former Chief of Staff John Kelly said regarding the notion of a blanket declassification. “And I can't imagine anyone that worked at the White House after me that would have simply shrugged their shoulders and allowed that order to go forward without dying in the ditch trying to stop it.”

As current Trump allies claim that the former President had issued a blanket declassification where any document that is taken out of the White House would immediately be cleared of classification status, many in the Defense department who were former allies of Trump have pushed back on the notion.

“It can't just be an idea in his head,” former Justice Department counterintelligence head David Laufman said. “Programs and officials would have been notified. There is no evidence they were.”

“A document that is classified in Washington, DC, is unclassified in Florida -- one could say such a thing, but it is nonsensical,” Steven Aftergood from the Federation of American Scientists Project on Government Secrecy said. “And it calls into question the good faith of anyone who would make such a claim.”

Beyond government officials, some of Trump’s allies in the media have jumped ship from the former President in order to endorse other individuals instead. Far-right radio host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has claimed on his show that he currently supports Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis instead of Trump, the Daily Beast reported.

“DeSantis has just gone from being awesome to being unbelievably good. And I don’t just watch a man’s actions, as Christ said. Judge a tree by its fruits. I can also look in his eyes on HD video, and I see the real sincerity,” he said.

“This is what Trump should be like. And I’ve been hammering this point, and he’s doing it now. And we have someone that is better than Trump. Way better than Trump.”
