Authorities in Utah arrested two men after an explosive device was discovered under a news media vehicle parked 45 minutes from the area where conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated earlier this month. Investigators say the incident presented a serious risk to public safety, even though the device failed to detonate.

According to TMZ, suspects have been identified as Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31. They were taken into custody after FBI agents and local bomb squads executed a search warrant at their residence in Magna, a community located just northwest of Salt Lake City. Officers seized firearms, illegal drugs, and multiple devices that resembled weapons of mass destruction but were determined to be hoax items.

The incendiary device was found on Friday beneath a television news van belonging to FOX 13 Utah. Court documents indicate that the device had been lit but malfunctioned before it could explode. Investigators with the Salt Lake City Police Department and the Unified Fire Authority evacuated nearby homes as a precaution while the bomb squad worked to secure the scene.

Unified Fire Authority investigator Jeffrey David Nelson described the placement of the device as a "significant threat to public safety" because of its location beneath a vehicle parked close to occupied buildings. Officials said that if the bomb had functioned as designed, it could have caused severe injuries and widespread damage.

The two suspects were booked into Salt Lake County Jail on multiple charges that include possession of weapons, drug-related offenses, and suspicion of terrorism-related crimes. Federal and state prosecutors are expected to review the evidence to determine the exact charges in the coming days.

The attempted bombing comes just days after Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during an event at Utah Valley University. Two days later, a 22-year-old man identified as Tyler Robinson was arrested and presented by the FBI as the alleged killer.

Authorities have not established a direct link between the assassination and the attempted bombing, but the timing and location of the incidents have raised concerns. Investigators are exploring whether the men arrested had any ideological motive or possible connection to the earlier shooting.

The presence of media vehicles in the area following Kirk's death may have made the news van a target. Officials have not yet released details about whether the suspects intended to harm journalists, disrupt coverage, or send a broader political message.

The FBI has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that additional suspects or accomplices are not being ruled out. Community leaders in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas have expressed concern about the rising level of political tension and the potential targeting of both public figures and members of the press.

Charlie Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Point USA, was a prominent conservative voice whose assassination shocked political circles across the country. His killing has already intensified debates about extremism and politically motivated violence in the United States. The discovery of a bomb so close to the scene of his murder has only heightened fears that the violence may not have ended with Robinson's arrest.
