Valentine's Day is all about love, candy, gifts and of course chocolate covered strawberries! But the delicious sweet treats can get a bit pricey around Feb. 14. So instead ordering chocolate covered strawberries, you can make them yourself and save a serious amount of money. Also, they always say the best gifts come from the heart, so a handmade romantic dessert is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday with your loved one. Luckily, this recipe is super simple, you will only need a few easily purchased and relatively cheap ingredients. Also, before you begin always remember that no matter how the chocolate covered strawberries turn out, your valentine will love them anyway because you made them from scratch with love.

Ingredients

For this simple chocolate covered strawberries recipe you will need:

  • 6 ounces of Semisweet Chocolate (chopped)
  • 3 ounces of White Chocolate (chopped)
  • 1 pound of Fresh Strawberries (about 20 strawberries)
  • Parchment Paper

Directions

1. Separate the chocolates. Put the Semisweet Chocolate and the White Chocolate into 2 separate heatproof bowls. (Medium sized, glass bowls will do the trick!)

2. Fill 2 medium sized sauce pans with 3 inches of water, bring to a simmer over medium heat.

3. Once simmering, turn of the heat and place the two bowls of chocolate over the water to allow the chocolate to slowly heat and melt.

4. Slowly stir the chocolate in order to aid the melting process. (Don’t over-heat, burnt chocolate is not a good Valentine’s Day surprise!)

5. Once the chocolate is melted and stirred till smooth. Remove the bowls from the pans and the heated water.

6. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper, this will help reduce sticking when you want to remove the finished strawberry product.

7. Wash and dry your fresh strawberries.

8. Hold the strawberry by the stem, or the leaves/top if the steam has been removed and dip the fruit into the Semisweet Chocolate, lift and twist slightly while holding it above the bowl. This maneuver will allow the excess chocolate to fall back into the bowl.

9. Set your strawberry down on the parchment paper, and repeat the process with your remaining strawberries, until all are covered in Semisweet Chocolate.

10. The white chocolate will be used for the drizzle. Dip a fork in the White Chocolate and drizzle in over your dipped strawberries.

11. Repeat the process as many times as you wish, for the desired amount of White Chocolate drizzle.

12. Place your dipped and drizzled strawberries in a cool and dry place in order to fully set, for about 45 minutes.

13. Once set, your chocolate covered strawberries should have a hardened chocolaty shell.

14. If you are really trying to impress you Valentine, arrange your dessert on a festive plate or platter and serve!
