A curious young girl in China had a near-death experience after getting her head stuck in a hole in the ceiling of their home.

The girl’s parents were petrified when they found a "hairball" hanging from the ceiling of their house in southwest China's Guizhou province. They described it looked like something straight out of a horror movie.

According to the authorities, the child was playing inside the house when she found a hole in the first-floor living room. The curious child decided to take a look inside and got herself trapped.

The hole had been left for a vent installation of an extraction fan, police said.

Her parents alerted the authorities and firefighters were dispatched to the home. The fire crew reached the house and found a "scary" head covered in long black hair hanging upside down through the ceiling.

A firefighter remained on the ground floor and pushed the girl's head upward as his colleagues held her upside down on the first floor. However, their efforts were in vain.

They then used pliers to expand the opening but not to avail.

The fire crew finally applied vegetable oil on the girl's neck and pulled her head out of the hole.
Commander Yang Hao of the Puding division at Anshun Fire Rescue told local media that the girl had been stuck in the hole for more than an hour before her parents located her.

The girl was later taken to a hospital for a detailed checkup. She is reportedly stable and expected to recover soon.

The child was rescued after a 40-minute long rescue operation. A video of the rescue efforts has gone viral on social media.

"My nose, it hurts!" the girl can be heard telling the firefighters as they tried to pull her out.

One user commented under the video, "My heart literally skipped a beat when I saw the hair hanging down like that. But at least the girl is okay."

Another wrote, "It is like a scene from The Ring where the ghost crawled out from the well. I shouldn't be watching this at night."
