Does “Assassin Creed IV: Black” pack the pirate punch that the world has been waiting for? Well, maybe. I mean sailing, sword fights, pillaging, and of course pirate’s booty makes for the perfect backdrop to a video, but unfortunately after the disappointment following “Assassin’s Creed III” fans are still a bit weary of the next installment of the series.

IGN revealed new exclusive information regarding “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag,” the game is set in the 18th-century, where characters pillage wide-open West Indies cities, and sail Caribbean waters, complete with “wind-blown trees, ambient wildlife, and a massive seamless world that features almost zero loading times.” But despite the jaw-dropping graphics, Ubisoft revealed that their main focus was on game play. In order to make sure gamers felt that they were truly playing in the instead of being a participant, lead writer Darby McDevitt revealed that the next series has returned to it’s roots.

In “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” players will once again experience the game through multiple-choice origins, “We went back to Assassin’s Creed 1 to see those [open-ended] setups.” In a demonstration of the new game, players met Edward Kenway, who must track down two brothers who are Templar associates. Kenway controls his ship, the Jackdaw, which is a massive vessel that gamers can steer and command attacks from.

The naval controls in ACIV are much more expansive than the combat in ACIII, players can also shoot from the front of the ship with a mortar. The series has also introduced a new weapon, aptly named fire barrels, the weapon works exactly like the name sounds. Engulfed barrels are thrown off the back of the Jackdaw to deter the path of the oncoming enemy ship.

“ACIV: Black Flag” could just be the pirates game that fans have been dying for. The pirate genre has been quite a let down for video game fans, and following the disappointment with AC III, this could be a big comeback for the series. If the game is genuine in its return to the “open-world” then this game could be killer.
