Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have reportedly overshadowed Prince William and Prince Harry since they married into the royal family. An expert has revealed that the popularity of the two princes has plunged since they married their respective wives, and it’s not a good thing.

Even before she joined the royal family, Meghan had already had a name of her own. Prince Harry met her at a time when she was particularly enjoying a high profile as a Hollywood star in the US. However, her marriage to Prince Harry only gave her public appeal a boost.

Evidently, Meghan got more media coverage than Prince Harry when they went to South Africa recently for their first royal tour as a family. Most royal followers lurked in social networks for updates about the royal tour not because of Prince Harry but because of Meghan. In fact, some went as far as calling the royal tour “Meghan Tour.”

According to royal expert Daniela Elser, the media’s obsession with Meghan is at the risk of detracting from the good work that the Duke of Sussex is actually carrying out to promote more important charities.

“In the coming days, as Harry tours Botswana, Angola and Malawi solo, there is every chance his meetings and work are liable to be overshadowed by coverage of what his wife are up to in South Africa,” she wrote.

Elsar noted that Prince William is going through the same problem as his brother Harry’s. And this has been so since they married in 2011.

“The same dynamic played out when Wills and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge toured North America after they tied the knot in 2011,” she said. “The future king, once the major draw for the hordes had been demoted to a largely supporting role,” she added.

The royal expert went on to compare Prince William and Prince Harry’s present circumstances to Prince Charles’ when he was still married to Princess Diana. She explained that Diana became so popular at that time to the point that she became even more popular than her husband, the future king.

Just like what happened to Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Elsar believes that the media’s obsession with Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton may start to cause problems in their respective relationships.

Princess Diana talked about this in an interview following her split from Prince Charles. “With the media attention came a lot of jealousy, a great deal of complicated situations arose because of that,” she said.
