In the months before the birth of Archie, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s first child, much of the gossip was briefly diverted from the Sussexes and focused on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. It was at this time that rumors of Prince William’s allegedly cheating on Kate Middleton with her pal Rose Hanbury surfaced.

Understandably, the palace did not make any comment on whether the rumor is true or not. But some parties took this silence as a sign that Prince William’s alleged affair might be tolerated in the royal family.

One of the obvious reasons for turning a blind eye to such affairs, alleged or otherwise, is that there’s nothing to be gained by “washing dirty linen in public.” The other reason is that royals cheating on their spouses are not that rare in the royal family.

Prince Charles

While the press dubbed Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding as the wedding of the century, the picture-perfect fairytale marriage did not last for long. “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” Diana revealed in the shocking 1995 BBC interview.

Princess Diana was referring to Prince Charles’ former girlfriend, Camilla Parker Bowles, as the third party. This means that Charles can’t really give a lecture to William in case the latter’s cheating is true since he did it in the first place.

Princess Diana

But even if Prince William’s mom, Diana, were alive today, she just might turn a blind eye to her son’s alleged affair as well. When things turned sour with Prince Charles, the late Princess of Wales sought love and comfort elsewhere and eventually found it in James Hewitt, a former Household Cavalry officer.

“Hewitt, a natural womanizer, gave her the attention and affection she relished, and then the passion she yearned for,” Diana’s former protection officer and confidante, Ken Wharfe, claimed in his book. “The pair usually met at an old cottage in Devon belonging to Shirley, Hewitt’s mother, where the creaking bedroom floorboards told the story more loudly than any confession.”

Prince Philip

Apparently, even Prince William’s grandfather, Prince Philip, might not be the best model for marital fidelity either. The prince allegedly had an affair with Pat Kirkwood in the 1930s, a stage actress whose legs must have been something to behold for them to earn the nickname “the eighth wonder of the world.”
