When Donald Trump insulted Latinos in the U.S. during his candidacy speech, many Latino public figures lashed out at the real estate tycoon. Latino and Non-Latino celebrities cut all relationship with the businessman, and several beauty pageant contestants called out of their participation in contests such as Miss USA and Miss Universe.

However, some Latin American countries have yet to decide if they will be taking part in Miss Universe, including Venezuela. When the media tried to reach the President of the Miss Venezuela Organization, Osmel Sousa, his representatives announced he was in Caracas recovering from an illness and was not giving any interviews at the moment.

During an interview with TVyNovelas, the Beauty Guru revealed that Venezuela has yet to reach a final verdict on their participation: “I don’t know if Venezuela is going to Miss Universe. I am not allowed to talk about the controversy surrounding Donald Trump. I have to obey and wait for my superiors’ decision.”

It is important to mention that Venezuela is the country with the most Miss Universe titles in Latin America. Seven Venezuelan beauty queens have taken home the crown, their last winner was María Gabriela Isler in 2013.
