An Indian man reportedly savagely punched his wife in the face on family court premises, causing the woman to lose some of her teeth, out of anger and frustration amid her refusal to agree to a divorce.

The violent incident reportedly took place outside the counseling center at a family court in Shivajinagar, Pune, India on Saturday, Nov. 27. The couple had filed for a divorce in the family court and were reportedly living separately.

On Saturday, Nov. 27, as part of the divorce proceedings, the couple was called to the court for counseling. However, during the session, the wife refused to amicably divorce her husband. The wife's response reportedly angered the husband, and in a fit of rage, he punched his wife in the face after they stepped out of the counseling center, Punekar News reported.

The wife, who sustained severe injuries in the attack, has lodged a complaint against her husband at the local police station.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a man was reportedly brutally beaten by his wife's family for not conceding to their demand to divorce his wife in Kerala, India in November.

The victim, identified as Abdul Aseeb, 30, and his wife Fatima Shahima reportedly got married only four months ago. Recently, however, when the couple engaged in an extended heated argument, Shahima's family intervened and forced him to divorce Shahima, News18 reported.

According to Aseeb, three of Shahima's relatives arrived at his workplace in November with swords, iron rods, and other deadly weapons in their hands and began beating him up. The trio then forcibly took him away in a vehicle and attacked him again in another area.

Aseeb said that he was then forced to say triple talaq, a form of divorce practiced in Islam that gives a man the right to end his relationship with his wife by uttering "talaq" three times in one sitting. "Talaq" is the Arabic word for "divorce."

“I was sitting in my office. My wife’s relatives came and attacked me. There were three of them. They had swords, iron rods, and other deadly weapons in their hands. Then they forced me into a vehicle, took me home, and beat me. More people were there. I was beaten and told to do triple talaq," Aseeb said.

Following the incident, six of Shahima's relatives were arrested by the police in connection with the violent incident.
