
Yuri is one of the most recognized entertainers in the history of Mexican music and has managed to stay in the spotlight for almost 40 years now. With a number of hit singles, musicals, and telenovelas under her belt, the 52-year-old singer has developed a fan base that has supported her through thick and thin, and she firmly believes she needs to give some of that love back.
“I love my career, my audience, but helping others fills my spirit; I have received so much in these 40 years and one can not be selfish; God has taught me that my life is not just to make people’s hearts happy, but to generate awareness,” the Veracruz born told TVyNovelas.
During the interview, La Güera de México talked about joining @SinTrata’s campaign, an organization that aims to stop human trafficking in the country and made a confession that not many knew about. “When I was a kid I was a victim of sexual abuse, a man touched me in my private parts and my parents sent him to jail,” she told the Mexican publication.

The proclaimed Christian added that she is “a warrior and a woman of faith,” and trusts that God has opened the doors for her to be able to help others, which why she decided to speak up for herself and those who think they can’t go on after suffering from sexual abuse. “I know I’m not going to stop this on my own, but if we all come together and speak up with order and respect, and without pointing fingers, go to those who are suffering and tell them: ‘We are here, you are not alone,’ I know we can help them move on.”
