The CW show “The 100” has been renewed for Season 6. The show completed its fifth season last year in August. Fans are eager to know more details about the exciting new season.

Season 5 set a different tone for the next one. The last season left off with the heroes traveling for 125 years in cryogenic sleep to a new planet. A new planet comes with new characters and a whole new story to tell.

Set in the new planet, Season 6 will introduce a whole new community with a “charismatic” leader named Russell. He will be played by J.R. Bourne, best known for his role in “Teen Wolf.” According to the casting announcement, Russell is a “pioneer and visionary” who leads the peaceful community that occupies the planet. The character will face the hard moral choices symbolic of the hard-hitting show.

The heroes' discovery of this new planet and the culture will be “unlike anything they've experienced and unlike anyone they've experienced” before, series creator Jason Rothenberg told TV Guide.

The newest season will feature Monty and Harper’s now-grown son Jordan, left to be raised by Bellamy and Clarke, as the series’ main star. While his parents may be gone, Jordan will carry on their legacy as the good guys.

However, going to the new planet will be a major learning experience for him. He has never lived outside the transport ship, so he is bound to go through his new life without his parents by his side for the first time. “Everything he experiences in Season 6 is going to be new and fresh and he's going to be wide-eyed and excited and horrified,” Rothenberg said.

With the exit of two essential characters, rumors about the post-apocalyptic show's imminent conclusion started floating around. Fortunately for fans, this doesn’t seem to be the case.

It looks like “The 100” might live to see another year at least. Rothenberg already has ideas for a brand new season. The CW President Mark Pedowitz talked about the potential renewal of “The 100” at the TCA winter presentation in January. “[Rothenberg] does have a really good idea for his seventh season. We'll see where we're at, that's a May thing,” he said.

Pedowitz also knew of Rothenberg’s long-term plan for the future of the show. He recently spoke to Nerdist a little bit about what the creator had in mind. “[Rothenberg] may have a six or seven-year plan to it,” he explained. “I don't know if I'm allowed to even say that, that he has a plan beyond year five, but he does.”

Last year, The CW president told the reporters that he also doubted if Season 6 would be the last for “The 100.” “Jason did a remarkable job of revitalizing the show, and I hope it can go on for a long time,” he said.

Season 6 of “The 100” is set to premiere on April 30. The last two seasons were released in January and February. The series is based on the novels of the same name by Kass Morgan.
