New York is regarded as the largest global market for Land Rover, making the unveiling of the all-new 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport luxury SUV at the 2013 New York International Auto Show almost a no brainer.

Fitting snugly in between the full-size Range Rover and the compact Evoque crossover, the new Range Rover Sport new features a new length that is 2.5 inches longer than its outgoing model. What's more, the wheelbase on the new Sport is a whopping 7 inches longer as Land Rover's engineers managed to stretch the wheels farther out to the edges of the platform. Thanks to its new dimensions, Land Rover is now able to squeeze in a third row bench to allow seating for 7. The benches fold flat when not in use.

Built upon the same all-new aluminum unibody platform as the full-size Range Rover, the new Sport model is a whopping 800 pounds lighter than the outgoing model. A dramatic weight loss, we expect the new 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport to boast significant improvements to both handling and fuel efficiency.

The fuel economy rating of the new Range Rover Sport will receive further improvement thanks to a new eight-speed automatic transmission that replaces the old six speed unit. What's more, the Range Rover Sport also boasts an engine start/stop function as well as regenerative charging for the electrical system.

The 2014 Land Rover Ranger Rover Sport features a base 3.0 liter supercharged V6 engine producing 340 hp. Thanks to the significant weight savings the new V6 powerplant is even faster than the base V8 available in the predecessor. Next, a 5.0 liter supercharged V8 packs 510 hp, enough to propel the performance 2014 Land Rover Ranger Rover Sport from 0-to-60 in just 5 seconds.

The supercharged V6 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport will start at $61,495 while the Sport SE will start at $63,495, a $2,000 premium. Next, the range topping 5.0 supercharged V8 will start at $79,995.
