Joe Ellis of Mufreesboro, Tennessee collects cans in some dumpsters to make some extra cash, however he was especially pleased when he discovered $3,800 disposed of in a Speedy Mart Dumpster.
The now famed dumpster diver told WKRN in Nashville, that he found the $3,800 in a plastic bag, the cash was in $100 bills and there was also 3 deposit slips in the bag but they had no name on them.
Ellis told WKRN that he thought about keeping the money but ultimately wanted to do return the money to it's rightful owner. Ellis made a righteous decision and stated, "I turned it in to the people, the two guys that work there, and I told them about what happened and I gave them the money and he was counting it out, one of the guys in the store. He said it was, I don't know, almost $4,000."
Ellis wasn't the only one shocked by his hefty discovery, Speedy Mart's manager; Maulik Patel said he couldn't believe what Ellis had dropped off to him! Patel told ABC News, "Ellis said he found it in the dumpster last night and dropped it off here and said if there is anyone looking money, you can give it to them."
After counting the high amount of money, Patel said he immediately called the police so that they could search for the money's rightful owner.
Police located the rightful owner of the $3,800 on Monday and Ellis provided an explanation for the disposal of the bag filled with money. "He was cleaning his car out, and he accidentally threw it [the money] away," Ellis told WKRN. As a reward for finding the money, and not keeping it, the owner gave Ellis $400.
However this isn't the first time Ellis has struck some money at the bottom of a dumpster, "Once I found $15!" stated Ellis.
My main concern is who is carrying around $3,800 in a plastic bag and who then throws it in a dumpster?!
