A woman reportedly stabbed her 5-year-old daughter to death in a park in Tomball, Texas on Sunday, Oct. 16.

The accused, identified as 37-year-old Melissa White Towne, allegedly stabbed her 5-year-old daughter to death at Spring Creek Park in Tomball, Texas, about 40 minutes away from Houston, on Sunday, Oct. 16. After stabbing her daughter, Towne drove the child to a Tomball hospital at around noon for treatment, FOX 26 Houston reported.

Towne's daughter was reportedly found "partially wrapped in plastic and mesh bags" in her Jeep Cherokee and was unresponsive. However, by the time the medical staff came out to the mother’s vehicle to evaluate the child, the child had succumbed to her injuries. She was pronounced dead at 12:10 p.m.

Officers from Harris County responded to the stabbing incident in the 15000 block of Brown Rd. According to detectives from the Homicide Division of Harris County Sheriff's Office, the little girl had suffered an "incision" in her neck, KHOU 11 reported.

Investigating officers are trying to find out Towne's motive behind the stabbing. Towne admitted to killing her daughter and the 37-year-old has been charged with capital murder and booked in the Harris County Jail.

In a similar but unrelated incident, an infant reportedly suffered a head injury and skull fracture after its mother threw a pot lid on its head in Easton, Pennsylvania on Sunday, Oct. 9, as previously reported.

The child's mother, identified as 27-year-old Tiffani Hare, and her boyfriend reportedly engaged in a heated argument at their house in Easton on Sunday, Oct. 9. As the argument escalated, Hare, in a fit of rage, picked up a pot lid that was lying nearby and tried to throw it at her boyfriend.

However, seeing Hare throw something at him, the boyfriend moved out of the way. The pot lid, however, struck the infant in the head. The infant, who is younger than 12 months, suffered a cut to the head, which required four surgical stitches to close, as well as a skull fracture and a brain injury.

Following the incident, the mother was arrested on assault and child endangerment charges.
