A woman has been accused of killing her one-and-a-half-month-old infant by allegedly throwing the baby into a well after being left irritated by the newborn's loud crying in Alappuzha, Kerala, India on Saturday, Aug. 6.

The accused, identified only as 26-year-old Deepthi, was reportedly annoyed by the infant's constant and loud crying when she decided to mount the horrific murder. Deepthi had recently reportedly undergone counseling regarding her anger issues towards her child.

However, on Saturday, Aug. 6, Deepthi lost her patience once again and proceeded to bring the baby to a well on the premises of her residence before dropping the child into the reservoir, Mathrubhumi reported.

After Deepthi threw the child into the well, her relatives and concerned neighbors recovered the baby and brought the infant to a government hospital in Haripad, Kerala for treatment. However, the hospital authorities declared the child dead upon arrival.

Trying to conceal her culpability in the death, Deepthi’s relatives claimed that the baby drowned in a plastic tub filled with water while bathing. However, the doctors, who were suspicious about the child's death, passed on the information to the police and alerted them regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the child's autopsy reports on Sunday, Aug. 7, revealed that the child's cause of death was drowning. After being taken into custody for interrogation, Deepthi confessed to committing the crime and detailed the horrifying ordeal to the authorities. The officers have registered murder charges against Deepthi.

Deepthi is currently undergoing treatment at Medical College in Vandanam for mental distress and is under the surveillance of the police.

In a similar but unrelated incident, a drunk man allegedly threw three of his children into a well following an argument with his wife in Sundargarh district, Odisha, India on Saturday evening, April 30, the Hindu reported.

The father, identified as 21-year-old Pandu Munda, allegedly erupted into a heated argument with his wife after he returned to his village Kulla from the nearby Koida market in a heavily drunken state.

During the confrontation, Munda reportedly picked up an axe and began chasing his wife with it. The woman managed to run away and hide behind a bush. However, when Munda returned home, he found his daughter Sina Munda, 5; son Raju Munda, 2; and six-month-old daughter alone.

The man then, in a fit of rage, took all three children and threw them into an open well shared by the town. Following the incident, the authorities responded to the scene, retrieved bodies from the well and arrested the father, who was found hiding in a nearby jungle.
