A woman from California has been arrested on Thursday after her attempt to start drunk drinking saw her dragging her toddler daughter and a bystander with her car, causing injuries to both victims.

Erin Garcia, a 44-year-old woman from Laguna Niguel, California, has been arrested for child endangerment, battery against a peace officer, and assault with a deadly weapon after a drunk driving incident that caused her to brutally tow her daughter for 300 feet with her vehicle, CBS affiliate KCAL reported.

Garcia was said to be drunk after a dinner with her mother, and her 8-year-old daughter was concerned about being driven home by her mother due to her inebriated state, the New York Daily News reported.

“Garcia’s 8-year-old child was concerned about her driving due to her intoxication level and followed Garcia out to her vehicle. The child grabbed the passenger’s door handle and told Garcia to stop,” the local police said in a statement.

The mother did not stop and instead started to drive away as her daughter held on to the door handle. Her daughter was dragged some 300 feet in this manner, causing moderate injuries on her legs and feet, according to ABC 7.

Her daughter was not the only one who was yanked by the drunk driver, as a male bystander attempted to make Garcia stop the vehicle in order to prevent a crash and save the young girl.

“Garcia stopped as the bystander and the grandmother attempted to get Garcia out of the vehicle,” the police said in a statement. “Garcia then proceeded to drive away, and the bystander was dragged by Garcia’s vehicle for a short distance. Garcia then drove away from the scene.”

She was later found by the police hiding behind some bushes in the backyard of her grandmother’s house. Garcia started kicking the officers who attempted to arrest her, before being taken into custody and imprisoned in the Orange County Jail.

Her bail has been set at $100,000 and she is set to appear in court on Monday.
