Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! Don't continue reading if you don't want to know what happens in "The Amazing Spider-Man" sequel. The movie opens up with Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) combatting crime in the busy streets of NYC on the day of his graduation from high school. Our beloved Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) is valedictorian and delivers a moving speech. During the chase, Spidey rescues an OsCorp employee called Max Dillon (Jamie Foxx) where the hero tells him "he needs him" which makes a big impression on him. After he stops the crime, Peter makes it just in time to receive his diploma and tells Gwen he wants to keep his vow to her father of keeping her away from harm and ends the relationship. Peter's childhood friend Harry Osborn returns to NYC when his father Norman, CEO of OsCorp, falls ill. Norman tells his son his disease is hereditary and Harry is at the age where it starts to develop. Norman gives Harry a chip that contains all his life's work. Norman days and Harry is appointed as the new CEO of OsCorp.

During a maintenance routine at OsCorp Max loses his balance and falls into a tank of genetically modified electric eels, which mutate him into a living electric generator. Gwen tells Peter she will be moving to England for school. Max goes into Time Square and causes a blackout, Spider-Man arrives to the scene and tries to calm him down, but when police attack him he loses his temper and attacks. Spider-Man stops him and Max is taken into Ravencroft Institute for examination. Harry believes that Spider-Man's blood can save him and asks Peter for his help. OsCorp frame Harry for covering Max's accident and remove him as CEO. Harry makes a deal with Max, "Electro," that will help him get back into OsCorp. Harry finds the venom from the spiders but instead of curing him, they transform him into a gross goblin-like creature.

Peter finds a secret lab disguised as an old subway station and sees a video left by his father where he explains he had to leave because he refused to cooperate with Norman Osborn's biogenetic plans. Gwen is leaving to England and Peter catches up to her and professes his love for her. Electro causes another blackout and Spider-Man heads off to stop him. Gwen follows along to help kill Electro by overloading his electricity supply. When Electro is killed off Harry arrives equipped with Norman's armor and kidnaps Gwen when he deduces Spider-Man is Peter. He fights Spider-Man at the top of a clock tower before dropping Gwen. Spider-Man does everything in his power to save Stacy from the free-fall but he is a second too late. Peter gives up on being Spider-Man and visits Gwen's grave often. When Harry helps Sytsevich out of prison he equips him with a "Rhino" armor and rampages through the streets of NYC once again. When Peter sees a recording of Gwen's graduation speech, he is inspired by her message of "hope" and returns to put on the Spider-Man costume to fight crime once again.
