It’s a sad adios for Antonio Banderas. Melanie Griffith has reportedly filed for divorce from the Spanish actor. TMZ obtained the legal documents citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for ending their 18-year marriage. In the documents, filed by Griffith’s attorney Laura Wasser, the actress asks for child support and sole physical and joint legal custody of the couple’s daughter, Stella, who will turn 18 in September. She also asks for spousal support.

Although the two will go their own way now, it seems as if the divorce is amicable. The only issue they will encounter will be when dividing property, as they have a lot of real estate both in the US and Spain. Griffith seemed to be in good spirits Thursday evening, just hours before her divorce was announced. She attended the AFI tribute to Jane Fonda, and smiled as she walked the carpet holding hands with Eva Longoria, still wearing her wedding band according to Mail Online.

This will be Griffith’s fourth divorce as she was married to Don Johnson in 1976 for six months, then married Steven Bauer in 1982 for five years, and then decided to give Johnson another chance in 1989. She has two kids from those relationships, Alexander with Steven Bauer, and Dakota from her second attempt to make it work with Don Johnson. Dakota happens to be the star on the upcoming film of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Meanwhile, this will be Antonio’s second divorce. He was previously married to Ana Leza. Both Antonio and Melanie costarred in the movie “Two Much” in 1995 and their chemistry was undeniable. Both of them began a relationship while they were technically married to other people. They waited until both divorces were finalized, and a month after they both were “single” again, Banderas and Griffith tied the knot in a low-key ceremony in London.

During their marriage they had to fight with endless separation rumors, besides Griffith’s addictions to cocaine and painkillers, which led her to rehab a couple times. In 2009, she also underwent surgery for skin cancer. It seemed as if after powering through the hard times together, Melanie and Antonio would survive, but unfortunately their time has come.
