It has been almost two weeks since the dramatic series finale of "Burn Notice" and the events of that episode weigh heavy on the heart. Everyone's favorite cigarette smoking, take no crap mamma Madeline Westen (Sharon Gless) sacrificed herself for her family. Her death was somewhat unexpected but made sense considering everything Michael Westen (Jeffery Donovan) has lost as a result of his work with the C.I.A. Westen's entire life was turned upside down from the moments he heard the words, "We've got a burn notice on you. You're black listed." But the series finale did have a bittersweet ending when Michael and Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) finally end up together.
With "Burn Notice" over and all of the character's stories wrapped up, you would think there would be nothing left to say about the series. But the rumor mill has been churning and there is talk of a spin off series featuring Jesse (Coby Bell) and Sam (Bruce Campbell). Nothing has been confirmed regarding a 'Burn Notice' spin off but the (1.) actors are game. "It's definitely something Bruce and I would both be into," said actor Coby Bell to TV Line. "It makes sense. It is just a matter of lining things up."
"Burn Notice" creator Matt Nix also spoke to TV Line saying (2.) he "would love to" explore a project based on Sam and Jesse by either coming up with another series or doing a TV movie. Sam Axe got his own TV movie in 2010 when the USA Network aired "The Fall of Sam Axe." The way the (3.) series finale of "Burn Notice" ended left a wide opening for a continued Sam and Jesse storyline. After Michael and Fiona disappear with Westen's nephew Charlie, Sam and Jesse go off to help another client.
Matt Nix spoke to thewrap.com about a possible spin off saying it didn't feel right to end the show with Sam going to "lounge at the pool for the rest of his life and Jesse goes and gets a job somewhere." Nix continued by telling The Wrap, "You want the feeling that at some level they're doing the thing that you see them doing, that the series has meant something to them as well...both of them have caught the bug and are going to carry that torch."
There is no question a (4) Sam and Jesse spin off would be hilarious. "Burn Notice" often took a more series side but Sam and Jesse were always there to lighten the mood. If it ever were to happen the Sam and Jesse series should focus on the comedic side of things. An action/comedy series would be a change to the seriousness of Michael Westen's journey in "Burn Notice." While there where some moments during the series that were laugh out loud funny the overall tone of the show was deep and dramatic. No doubt, a show focusing on Sam and Jesse would have more laughter than tears. Check out some funny "Burn Notice" bloopers below!
