The opening match of Group H will take place on June 17th and will see Algeria face a young and up and coming Belgian squad. There has been a lot of talk about Belgium coming into this World Cup as they are many people’s dark horse to go far. They have a multitude of players playing for top clubs throughout Europe hoping to make a name for themselves on the international stage.

Despite the Algerians not possessing any marquee names that an everyday soccer fan may know, they are a group that plays well together and could potentially offer the “golden generation” of Belgium a tough match. Look for Hassan Yebda and Saphir Taider to try and counter the strong Belgian midfield that consists of Kevin De Bruyne, Kevin Mirallas and Eden Hazard.

It will be no easy task for Algeria though, as the Belgian team has quality from front to back. It starts with their goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois who was influential in Ateltico Madrid’s run to the World Cup final and ends with Romelu Lukaku who had a terrific campaign for Premier League club Everton. It won’t get any easier anywhere in between for the Algerians Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany and Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelan will be anchoring the back four.

I do think that Algeria will offer the Belgians a tough test, but the class of the Belgian squad will be too much for the Algerians to handle. I see the majority of chances falling to the Belgians. The question is whether or not they will be able to capitalize on them. It will primarily be up to Lukaku to finish off the opportunities that Hazard and co. will surely be offering.

Though no easy match for Belgium, I do see them coming out victorious after 90 minutes. Look for Hazard and Lukaku to shine bright for “les Diables Rouges” as they will surely display to the world why they are one of the best teams in the tournament.

My prediction: Belgium wins 3-0
