With only two episodes remaining before “The Blacklist” Season 6 wraps up, fans can expect the action to heat up even more. In episode 21, presidential advisor Anna McMahon finally sheds any pretense of being one of the good guys and goes head to head with Cooper and his team.

In a brief trailer of episode 21 of Season 6 of “The Blacklist,” Liz finally realizes what they are up against. “A Justice Department official is orchestrating a plot against America?” a shocked Liz can’t help but ask.

But it’s worse than what she could have imagined as the plot even involves a person at the top of the totem pole. “The President is part of a conspiracy,” Assistant Director of the FBI Counterterrorism Division Harold Cooper informs Liz.

Apparently, the conspiracy could no longer be kept under wraps, and Cooper’s team finally took action. “Deal with them,” President Robert Diaz instructs Anna to solve the potential problem. Anna was later seen in a gunfight with the counterterrorism team.

Recent episodes of the sixth season of NBC’s hit series finally answered long-running questions that fans have been asking. For instance, it was finally revealed that the current Reddington is an impostor and an accomplice of Liz’s mother, Katarina Rostova.

These revelations, meanwhile, spawned some “The Blacklist” theories of their own concerning the real identity of the current villain, Anna McMahon. Surprising as it may sound, there are some who suspect that Anna is actually Liz’s mother, Katarina Rostova.

According to this theory, Katarina was bent on evading the relentless pursuit of both the KGB and the Americans. One way for her to do this is to get a totally new identity. While Ilya Koslov decided to keep Reddington’s identity for good, it is possible that Katarina likewise opted for a change of name, as well as appearance. Thus, she also went under the knife to emerge later as Anna McMahon.

Interestingly, this theory would match what “The Blacklist” creator Jon Bokenkamp teased earlier. The show’s creator previously teased fans that there are a few surprises down the line regarding the villain McMahon.

Is Anna actually Liz’s mom? Find out when “The Blacklist” Season 6 episode 21 airs on Friday on NBC.
