What To Know About Rayshard Brooks Fatal Shooting: Atlanta Police Officer Charged With Felony Murder Pixabay

An American socialite and daughter-in-law of a British billionaire, Jasmine Hartin, could be charged for the death of Henry Jemmott. Investigation into the death of the San Pedro Police Superintendent started after his body was discovered on Friday, May 28 morning. Jemmott was with Hartin alone when the incident took place. The 38-year-old woman was arrested and is being held as a suspect.

Even as Belize continued to be in Covid-19 lockdown, the 42-year-old police officer and his American socialite friend were out drinking. Sometime after the two were on a pier a gunshot was heard. The first policeman to reach the spot found Hartin in an emotional state. She had blood on her clothing and arms.

She was taken into police custody only to be released and rearrested soon after, The Sun reported. Jemmott’s body was eventually discovered in the water off the island. He had a gunshot wound to the back of his head which made it unlikely for it to be suicide. The police officer’s service revolver was also found on the pier where the incident took place.

There are multiple speculations over what took place on the night of the incident. According to 7 News Belize, the two friends were on the pier where Hartin was massaging Jemmott’s shoulder. The source claims that Hartin admitted to the police that Jermott wanted her to hand him his gun during the massage. When she was trying to hand him the weapon it accidentally went off. After the man was shot, he fell on the woman. She pushed his body off leading to the bloodstain and the victim’s body in the water. This claim is unsubstantiated. Other claims include the man being shot by someone on a passing-by boat.

Hartin was held at the San Pedro police station jail. She refused to give a statement to the police in the absence of her lawyer.

Speaking about the incident the deceased man’s sister, Marie Jemmott Tzul, said that they got a call about Hartin being charged in relation to her brother’s death. New York Times reported that on Monday, May 31 the woman could be charged.

Hartin is married to Andrew Ashcroft, the son of Lord Michael Ashcroft. The couple as well as Michael lives in Belize. The former deputy chairman of the British Conservative Party has not made any public statements regarding the incident. The police continue their investigation.
