The Chevrolet Camaro has long been the ultimate symbol of the man's answer to a midlife crisis. In fact, we're pretty certain that the term "Big Boy's Toy" didn't exist until the Camaro was first unveiled many decades ago.
Now, Chevrolet is teaming up with Hot Wheels to create an all new special edition Camaro known as the Hot Wheels Edition for 2013. Inspired by an actual 1:64 scale toy, the latest Camaro is slated for limited production after its public debut at the upcoming SEMA show in Las Vegas later this week.
Chevrolet Vice President of Marketing Chris Perry said, "Millions of us grew up playing with Hot Wheels. Offering a special production model of the Camaro Hot Wheels is an opportunity to bring those memories to life, for kids of all ages."
While the new Camaro Hot Wheels Edition is meant to bring back nolstalgia, the mission of the Chevrolet Camaro is, and always will be, muscle and power. The new Hot Wheels Edition will come available in both coupe and convertible body style and will be available in a number of powertrain options including the 2LT V6 as well as the 2SS V8.
Exterior-wise, the Hot Wheels Edition package will feature a number of ZL1 styling elements and will come with a unique Kinetic Blue paint job. Visual tweaks include ground effects, front splitter, ZL1 upper grill and a ZL1 rear spoiler. A set of blacked-out 21-inch wheels will also feature a red accent to commemorate classic Hot Wheels redline designs. Finally, the hood features a matte hood stripe and olbigatory Hot Wheels badges are strategically slapped across the car's body.
The original 1:64 1968 Chevy Camaro was one of the first 16 Hot Wheels die-cast toy cars that the toy company ever introduced. For customers keen to buy a powerful piece of childhood memory, Chevrolet is charging a $6,995 premium for the Hot Wheels Edition over the prices for a standard 2LT or 2SS Camaro.
