GM has announced a sales halt for 1.4 liter turbo Chevrolet Cruze models from the 2013 and 2014 model year. The sales stop on the Chevy Cruze was announced on Friday morning for undisclosed reasons.
The Chevrolet Cruze compact car is currently recognized as GM's global best-seller. As a matter of fact, the affected 1.4 liter turbo model represents 55 percent of all Chevy Cruze sales. Not only did the American automaker abruptly put a voluntary stop on the best selling trim of its best selling car, but car buyers are particularly alarmed by the news due to how closely it follows a very controversial ignition recall affecting as many as 2.6 million vehicles.
Eventually, Detroit Free Press reported that GM confirmed that the sales stop was intended to address a defect to the right front axle half shafts, which “can fracture and separate without warning.”
