Christian Chávez shocked his followers on Twitter when he uploaded very graphic and morbid selfies laying on the floor with blood running down his arms. On one of the images where we can see the former RBD band member with his eyes closed and an alcohol bottle next to his head he wrote, "I just want to say to all you people with a double moral... no more." The photos proved to be so disturbing that they cause commotion and the singer quickly deleted them from his timeline, not before hashtags like "ChristianChavezTeAmamos" and "StayStrongChristian" became trending topics. His former "Rebelde" costars, Dulce Maria and Christopher Uckermann, have come out and expressed their support for Chavez during this difficult time. "I adore and respect him a lot. I prefer to remain silent due to the friendship we hold," the redhead singer said to daytime talkshow "Hoy." Christopher on his side said, "Christian has always said what is on his mind, but he has always been grounded. It surprised me but they are life's downfalls. We sometimes don't think about what we upload to Twitter but he is a great person."
After initial reports that the images were false, the pop star came out and clarified that the photos were real. "To me it is very important to clarify that the images that were published, were real," he said in the video. "I’m going through a difficult time, I know I’m not the only one, I know that many other young people are going through the same thing. But I also know that with my family, and your love, with God’s love and with my hard work towards what I love, I’m going to be alright. Thank you very much, and I hope to see you soon.”
His former boyfriend, Ben Kruger, has also talked about the incident in an open letter to LatinTimes. "What is disturbing to me is that since the photos were tweeted by Christian, he has continued to tweet," Kruger said in the letter. "Today, he even uploaded a video saying that the photos were in fact real. Why is he not in the hospital on some kind of psychiatric hold? Why is he not already in treatment? Why is he being allowed to tweet and comment on his actions? This to me is incredibly suspicious." Ben hopes that Chavez gets better but also believes this is only the beginning of the turmoil. "I really hope he gets the help he needs and takes responsibility for his actions, for the chaos he caused with me and, most recently, with his fans. Although I remain hopeful he will get better, I have a feeling this is only the beginning of the nightmare that has become Christian's life. He seems to thrive in chaos."
