In a poignant reunion, Julio César Chávez Sr., the towering figure of Mexican boxing, traveled to the state Sonora to embrace his son, Julio César Chávez Jr., days after the younger Chávez's release from custody, marking their first in-person meeting since his legal turmoil began, with his arrest by ICE agents.

The emotional moment unfolded at Coliseo Boxing Club in Hermosillo. A video shared on social media captured the legendary boxer entering the gym to find his son in training.

Upon seeing each other, they shake hands, and Sr. brings Jr.'s head in for a kiss before engaging in a hug.

They soon break the embrace and stand somewhat awkwardly before beginning a conversation, and the video ends. The gym honored the visit via Instagram, writing, "Thanks for your visit. This is your home." Sr. had previously acknowledged his son's legal situation and stood by him in an interview in Mexico.

The son of the legendary three‑division world champion was deported from the United States on August 19, 2025, following his arrest in July for overstaying his visa and making false statements on a green card application. He obtained residency through his marriage to Frida Muñoz, a U.S. citizen. Upon his return to Mexico, authorities detained him in a maximum‑security facility, the Federal Center for Social Rehabilitation (CEFERSO) No. 11, located in Hermosillo.

Citing a lack of conclusive evidence, a federal judge granted Chávez Jr. continued release pending trial and was freed on August 24, under conditions including a travel ban and court‑ordered oversight. The next hearing is scheduled for November 24, as prosecutors, who allege his involvement in arms trafficking and links to the Sinaloa Cartel, prepare their case.

Chávez Jr., 39, is facing serious allegations tied to organized crime following his deportation after a high‑profile loss to Jake Paul in a widely publicized match in June. Prosecutors assert that intercepted communications link him with the Sinaloa Cartel and that he acted as a henchman in arms trafficking operations. The family and legal team have consistently denied these allegations, arguing there's no solid evidence.

However, his return to training just 48 hours after his release indicates his eagerness to return to the sport that has defined his life, even as questions remain about his legal situation and future inside the boxing ring.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr where is he?

Julio César Junior is the oldest of the legendary boxer's children and one of the three kids he had with his first wife Amalia Carrasco.
