The Clemson Tigers were looked upon as one of the teams capable of competing for a National Championship in 2013. Thanks to an opening week victory over SEC power Georgia, the Tigers showed they're a true force to be reckoned with since they were able to go toe-to-toe with one of the most powerful team's in the nation. Enjoying a bye last weekend after taking down South Carolina State 52-13, Clemson's next test may prove to be one of its most challenging since it comes against an undefeated conference rival.
North Carolina State ushered in a new era this offseason, welcoming in former Northern Illinois head coach Dave Doeren who they hope can build a level of efficiency and competitiveness for years to come in a league that features Clemson, Florida State, Miami and Virginia Tech. Doeren led Northern Illinois to the 2012 Orange Bowl and it was because of that winning pedigree that North Carolina State brought in the 41-year-old coach. Wins over Louisiana Tech (40-14) and Richmond (23-21) have certainly given the Wolfpack reason to be optimistic about their first campaign under Doeren but the challenge will get tougher this weekend as the 'Pack welcomes in No. 3 Clemson.
