After US President Donald Trump’s insistence to call the coronavirus “the Chinese virus”, Jair Bolsonaro’s son Eduardo, a politician with much influential prowess and Brazil’s de facto foreign minister, has now taken a similar stance. He has claimed that the growing coronavirus pandemic has been caused by the Chinese communist party.

He has blamed them for the virus spreading throughout the world with an incendiary tweet that has enraged Beijing.

Bolsonaro retweeted a message that said: “The blame for the global coronavirus pandemic has a name and surname: the Chinese Communist Party” and wrote “It’s China’s fault” as its caption on Twitter

His comments, attacking Brazil’s biggest trade partner, have not only attracted the ire of Beijing’s ambassador to Brazil but also led senior Chinese diplomats to launch a stinging attack against Brazil and the son of its far-right president.

“Your words are extremely irresponsible,” the embassy in Brasília tweeted.

“Regrettably, you’re someone lacking both international vision and common sense, knowing neither China nor the world. We would advise you not to be in such a hurry to be the US’ spokesperson in Brazil – you’ll fall flat on your face,” the Chinese embassy further said, adding that Eduardo Bolsonaro must have contracted “a mental virus” while he was in the United States, making a sly comment on Donald Trump’s recent controversial comment.

“It’s not racist at all, not at all. It comes from China, that’s why. I want to be accurate,” Trump had said.

Yang Wanming, Beijing’s top diplomat in Brazil, has also demanded Eduardo to immediately retract the tweet and to issue an apology for the “evil insult”. In retaliation to Eduardo’s tweet, Yang also retweeted a message that read: “The Bolsonaro family is the great poison of this country.”

But even as the consequences of Eduardo’s bold comments are yet to surface, his supporters are now actively trolling the Chinese embassy and its ambassador.

“You should be EXPELLED from the country,” tweeted Allan dos Santos, one of the supporters of the Bolsonaro family.

“This shit came from China. The Chinas [sic] lied and were negligent. Don’t trust communists – much less Chinese communists,” wrote another Bolsonaro supporter, Bernardo Küster.
