A year after recovering from an apparent overdose and prioritizing mental health, Demi Lovato is back to work! This time, she delves back in to her acting roots with a fictional character role.

The "Heart Attack" singer is set to join the cast of "Will & Grace" for its final season with a recurring role which means she might appear in more than one episode.

The singer last starred on a TV series in 2015 for "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series".

Lovato stars as Jenny, a 'tough and guarded' woman, as described by The Hollywood Reporter, who unexpectedly arrived in Will's life.

"Will & Grace" is a groundreaking sitcom series originally set at eight episodes but is now running for its eleventh and final one. The plot revolves around best friends Will Truman (Eric McCormack) and Grace Adler (Debra Messing) along with Jack McFarland (Sean Hayes) and Karen Walker (Megan Mullaly).

The Emmy award-winning series has been revived three times from its original eighth season ending. Messing took to Instagram to show her excitement about Lovato joining the cast.

"It’s official! #DemiLovato is part of the family! I’m adopting her as my baby sister. She’s amazing (obvi) and I can’t wait for y’all to see her!" she wrote.

Big-time guest stars have always visited some of the comedy show's episodes and this final season will not disappoint in the guesting department.

In 2003, Madonna's character almost became Karen's new roommate. Three years later, Britney Spears played a pundit named Amber-Louise. Bernadette Peters played Karen's sister and Candice Bergen played herself.

Other famous portrayals include Demi Moore as a babysitter, Matt Damon as one of Jack's rivals, Elton John as a gay mafia member and Ellen DeGeneres as a nun.

The newcomer guests this season include Patton Oswalt as Stanley's brother, Chris Parnell as Dr. DiLorenzo and Ali Wentworth as Dr. Saperstein. "Will & Grace" is set to air in 2020.

Lovato's acting engagements could be the reason behind her missing the VMAs 2019.

"Okay I can't tell you guys what I'm doing today (you'll find out super soon tho) but it's making me SO HAPPY, I'm having SO MUCH FUN and I can't stop laughing," she said on an Instagram story to explain that she missed the VMAs for 'a reason'.

"Now go come up with your crazy (expletive) theories as to what it might be!!!"
