The Denver Broncos got a much needed win on Sunday against the Houston Texans to improve to 5-2 on the season. On top of that, their starting running back C.J. Anderson had a season high 107 rushing yards in the process.

But not all is well.

Anderson suffered a bone bruise in that game. According to multiple reports, he is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks. That same report also indicated that Anderson is seeking a second option, however there is even a possibility that he could miss the remainder of the season. The Broncos next three games are against the San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders and New Orleans Saints followed by a bye week.

That Week 11 bye week couldn’t come at a better time for Anderson. The Broncos will take on their AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs the following week. Whether or not Anderson is ready to play by then remains to be seen.

Don’t count on John Elway testing the free agent market with so few notable backs unsigned. The NFL trade deadline of Nov. 1 is quickly approaching, but making a splash in the trade market may be a stretch for the Broncos. This is Devontae Booker’s time to shine. Booker is the only active running back on the roster who even has more than 35 rushing yards. The 24-year-old backup running back has 244 rushing yards on the season, 83 of which came against the Texans last week.

Booker is still a rookie, but he was drafted in the fourth round by the Broncos earlier this year. Despite fumbling on his first career carry, Booker hasn’t lost his confidence. Considering the fact that the Broncos have a first year starting quarterback, it’s paramount for them to have a stable rushing attack.

Kapri Bibbs is expected to be Booker’s backup this weekend against the Chargers.
