With the American League Championship Series tied at one, the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers will resume the best-of-seven slate at Comerica Park in Detroit in a game that will certainly shift series control and confidence to the winner. Detroit took the opening game at Fenway Park 1-0 and looked as though they'd win Game 2 thanks to another tremendous pitching performance by Max Scherzer. Leading 5-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, all was going relatively well for the Tigers until they loaded the bases for Red Sox slugger David Ortiz.

Swinging at the first pitch he saw from reliever Joaquin Benoit, Ortiz launched a grand slam over the right field fence to tie the game at 5. The Sox went on to win the game thanks to Jarrod Saltalamacchia's walk off single and even though Boston earned a much-needed win, the Tigers and manager Jim Leyland aren't worried about their chances moving forward since they know they have the ability to take the series. "It's playoff baseball," Leyland said. "Looked like we had one in hand and we let one get away, there's no question about that. But there have been two great games."

"I made a mistake that I take full responsibility for," Leyland said regarding the move to bring in Benoit to face Ortiz. "I should have just reminded him that we didn't want Ortiz to really beat us. He tried to make a great pitch. He tried to get it low and away out of the strike zone, but he didn't get it there."

Despite the fact that Detroit let one slip away on the road, Max Scherzer trusts in his team's ability to bounce back after a tough loss while noting that earning a two-game split in a tough environment is a tremendous accomplishment.

"We came away with the split," Scherzer said. "You have to see the glass half-full. This stinks, but guess what? The sun comes up tomorrow, and we're going to be playing these guys at home in front of our fans. It's up to us to choose if we're going to come out and compete. I think we will. I don't think this is going to deter our effort. I believe in this clubhouse. I believe in everybody in here, all 25 guys here. I still believe in us."

The Tigers will send ace Justin Verlander to the mound for Game 3 where he will be opposed by Boston's John Lackey. Both pitchers won their last outings in the postseason.
