Police said that a drive-by shooting Wednesday afternoon near a Chicago high school left four teenagers injured.

The incident took place around 2.45 p.m. outside an ice cream shop right across the street from Carl Schurz High School, reported ABC News. Police believe that a dark SUV pulled up to a group of people, said Deputy Chief of Chicago Police Department Roberto Nieves . Then someone who was sitting inside the vehicle opened fire before the SUV sped off. Cops are looking for surveillance footage of that vehicle, and have canvassed businesses in nearby area to get more footage to aid in the investigation, reported 5 Chicago.

Nieves said that a boy, 15, was shot in the face and the neck and was said to be in critical condition. Another 15-year-old boy was shot in the back, but was in good condition. A 17-year-old boy was also in good condition after being treated for a graze wound to his leg. An 18-year-old boy was shot in the leg and was also said to be in good condition.

According to a Chicago Teachers Union tweet, the teenagers attend Carl Schurz High School and a nearby charter school.

No arrests have been made, said Nieves, who also informed that detectives have not yet determined a motive for the shooting of the four teenagers. He said that detectives are analyzing footage from surveillance cameras so that they could possibly identify suspects. Nieves added that he believed some of the students had been dismissed before the shooting. According to him, the school releases students for the day on a staggered schedule.

In a statement, Chicago Public Schools said that a shooting happened just before a high school's dismissal bell, but did not confirm the name of the school. The school went on a lockdown that was later lifted and students were released. The statement said that due to privacy concerns and student confidentiality, the "District typically does not confirm the identity or school affiliation of any victims."

A parent, Mily Garcia who was waiting outside the school to pick up her daughter, said that she saw someone in a passing SUV open fire at some people just outside the La Michoacana ice cream shop.

Block Club Chicago reported that in 2019, a teen, Emmanuel Gallegos, was fatally shot while he was riding in a car near Schurz. The 17-year-old Northside College Prep student was on his way to get a haircut.
