A Ukranian man was reported to have turned his back on his own daughter he just collected from the orphanage a few months earlier. The accusation of abandonment arose when a little girl was found living in a makeshift tent built on a dumping ground.

According to The Daily Mail, the unnamed father left his daughter near the garbage dump in Odesa, Ukraine and it seems he left her there with no intention of picking her up again. The girl shares a tent with other homeless adults who scavenge garbage areas for food scraps.

The police have started an investigation over the case of the abandoned girl but the details are still scarce at the moment. In any case, the authorities found her after Christmas so she likely spent the occasion in the tent with no food and feeling cold.

Based on the report, the girl was only known by her first name which is Anastasia. She was said to have been sighted at the dumping place a few days before the police went to find her on Dec. 30, 2019. When the police finally collected the girl, they quickly turned her over to social workers to be cared for.

Anastasia was then brought back to the orphanage or care home where she originally lives before her father came to get her in June 2019. Through the initial investigation, it was revealed that her dad thought it was too much work for him so he decided to leave her in the area with a pile of rubbish.

As per the Mirror, Anastasia seems to be six years old and she was left there by her father on Christmas day. It was Nata Samokhina, a children’s worker who discovered the girl first and informed the police.

Giving her statements, Samokhina said that they are wondering why no one had reported about the child living in such a poor state. The police are also making an inquiry as they could not understand why the three homeless adults in the tent did not report her to them either.

“It is incredible how many people passed by and did not pay attention to her, none of them called the police,” Samokhina said.

At the orphanage, one worker named Valentina Kartasheva shared that when Anastasia’s father came to fetch her, they really don’t want to let her go but they have no choice. “We did not want to give her to him, we had a feeling. But we had to obey the law and thank God she is alive.”

Kastasheva said that although Anastasia had undergone a medical checkup before she was returned to the orphanage, the little girl is currently in a state of shock. The institution is now taking legal measures so Anastasia’s father will lose his parental rights and never come back to get her out again.
