A 41-year-old man from Singapore who forced his son to have sex with his drunk mother twice was sentenced to spend 29 years behind bars and handed 24 strokes of the cane on Monday, Oct.4.
The unidentified man forced his elder son, then aged between 15 and 16 years old, to have sex with the biological mother of his two kids.
The man was also accused of sexually abusing his daughter from when she was nine to 15.
According to local media reports, in 2015, the daughter, then 11, was at their Singapore home during the year-end school holidays when her father asked her to wash her private parts.
The girl reportedly complied, knowing that her father wanted to sexually assault her, as he had done so before.
The accused then sexually assaulted his minor daughter in her room.
In 2017, when the girl turned 13, the father ignored the girl’s cries of pain and raped her in her bedroom without using any protection, according to reports.
The girl had narrated her ordeal to her elder brother, who asked her not to give in to their father.
However, the boy did not tell anyone about their father’s gruesome acts as he was afraid of being beaten by him, and also did not want to ruin the family's reputation.
The children did not confide in their mother as they did not want her to confront the ill-tempered man and get injured by him.
In 2018, the family moved into another flat in the city.
One night, the accused and his wife were drinking at their new home when the intoxicated woman fell asleep on her bed.
At the time, the father went to their son who was playing a game on a console, and asked him to rape his mother.
The boy refused but the furious father repeated his instructions sternly.
Afraid of being attacked, the boy reportedly complied and approached his sleeping mother.
When he told his father he did not know how to commit the act, the man "helped" him.
When the man left the room, the boy immediately stopped the act and washed himself. His mother was unaware of what had happened.
In 2019, the daughter attended a talk in her school about unprotected sex and sexually transmitted infections and felt disgusted by her father’s actions towards her.
The girl fled to her aunt’s house one day and told her everything. The elderly woman then brought the girl to lodge a police report.
An investigation revealed that the man, a technician, raped his daughter as he did not want her to have sex with outsiders, and wanted her to remain single and by his side.
"This case is really quite unprecedented in its complete and frankly unthinkable desecration of all familial ties," Deputy Public Prosecutor Victoria Ting said while opening the prosecution’s sentencing submission.
"The accused has victimized all three of his immediate family members with his abhorrent acts," she added.
The accused pleaded guilty to three of his charges, including causing his son to sexually penetrate his mother and sexually assaulting his daughter, on Monday before Justice Dedar Singh Gill.
"The facts of this case are repulsive. Words cannot adequately describe the abhorrent nature of the acts committed by the accused. These acts involve the rape of his biological daughter and the causing of his biological son to rape his own mother – the wife of the accused – while she was intoxicated," Justice Gill said.
"The acts are an assault on the basic values of being human. The sentences must reflect the gravity of such offenses and address the public disquiet which such offenses engender," he added.
