In the state's northwest, NSW Police shot and killed an armed man who was a father of two.
Just after 5 p.m. on Thursday, Corey Selby, 48, was shot during an altercation in front of the Tenterfield Police Station when he pointed a revolver at authorities.

A neighbor alleged Selby threatened his wife Cindy inside the family home while displaying a pistol outside.
While neighbors phoned the police, Cindy drove to the police station with their two children, reports 9news.

Prior to the argument and the shooting, the NSW Police said they had been monitoring Selby's welfare.
He was saved by NSW ambulance paramedics, but he died at the scene.
The man had to be shot by police, according to acting commander Steve Egginton. The state's homicide squad is investigating the circumstances of the shooting.

"Police were called to a job in regards to a concern for the welfare of this particular individual, they have responded to that and it has ended up in a set of circumstances where there was a conflict out front of the Tenterfield Police Station," Egginton said.
"Police don't go to work at any point in their careers thinking they will use their firearm at any point… if someone points a firearm at them they need to defend themselves."

According to Egginton, the issue has crushed the man's family.
"We are providing them with what support we can to help them understand the process we need to go through to give them some answers in terms of how this came about," he said.
"(It was) very confronting for our police, very confronting for those in the community who may have seen or heard what went on too, so we are trying to do our best to support everybody involved in this."

Police will look into the incident's circumstances, including the use of a police weapon, in a critical incident inquiry.
The case will be reviewed independently after that investigation.
