Fernando del Paso, author fo novels “José Trigo”, “Palinuro de México” and “Noticias del Imperio”, has been awarded the prestigious Alfonso Reyes Prize in Mexico. The prize, awarded by the National Institute of Fine Arts, recognizes a lifetime contribution to the field of literary criticism. Previous winners include Jorge Luis Borges and Carlos Fuentes. The award ceremony will take place in 2014 at the Government Palace in the state of Nuevo Leon.

The Alfonso Reyes Prize is awarded by the National Institute of Fine Arts in conjunction with the National Council for Arts and Culture and the International Aflonsina Society. Fernando del Paso was born in Mexico City in 1935 and studied literature and economics at the National Autonomous University. He was Mexican Consul to the Mexican Embassy in Paris and also ran the Iberoamerican "Octavio Paz" Library at the University of Guadalajara.

Among del Paso's most important works are: “Sonetos de lo diario”, “De la A a la Z por un poeta”; “Paleta de diez colores”; “Palinuro en la escalera” and “Linda 67, historia de un crimen.”
