Supreme Court Blocks Religious Charter School, Reaffirming Church-State Separation

Former Barrio Azteca cartel leader Salvador Garcia-Garcia, known as "Ardilla," has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison for his role in the organization's drug-trafficking operations.

Border Report cited documents showing that Garcia-Garcia was responsible for the coordination of heroin shipments, which were smuggled from Juarez to El Paso between 2010 and 2014. He also recruited associates to help with the operation.

Garcia-Garcia was indicted for seven counts, including conspiracy to conduct the affairs of an enterprise through a pattern of racketeering activity, murder in aid of racketeering activity, as well as three separate drug trafficking charges.

The cartel leader was arrested in June last year and pleaded guilty to the charges against him in April. The outlet added that 18 co-defendants have been sentenced since 2016.
