"Game of Thrones" actor, Clive Mantle, has had part of his ear bitten off. Mantle portrayed Greatjon Umber in the first season of HBO's smash hit. It seems as though he has a lot in common with his on screen character, who lost two fingers to Robb Strak's direwolf, Grey Wind, in Season 1.
According to his agent, Mantle was attacked at the Travelodge in Foster Street in Newcastle after a dispute over noise. The attack happened on the early hours of Sunday morning. Mantle immediately underwent emergency surgery to have his ear sewn back on.
The attack occurred after Mantle had performed in the show "The Ladykillers" at the Theatre Royal. It is believed that Mantle asked a group of men to keep the noise down outside his hotel room before he was attacked. The attacker is a 32-year-old man from Hamilton in South Lanarkshire. He has been charged with wounding with intent.
Mantle's agents, the London-based Sarahband Associates, said surgeons at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary had managed to sew the top part of the actor's right ear back on.
"He is very shaken and shocked by what has happened. You don't expect this kind of thing to happen in a hotel," said Mantle's spokesperson. "The part of the ear that was bitten off was found and sewn back on. Mr. Mantle said the police, ambulance and hospital staff were amazing."
