The movie “Gloria,” based on the life of Mexican singer Gloria Trevi, will make its way to the big screen in McAllen and Los Angeles this summer. Director Christian Keller announced this week that he was delighted to finally be bringing his movie to Gloria’s fans living in the U.S.: “It is a fabulous sensation to know that audiences in McAllen and Los Angeles will be able to experience this movie on the big screen.”

The film, which premieres in McAllen on July 17 and Los Angeles on August 7, portrays Trevi’s journey to fame, her relationship with former manager Sergio Andrade, her arrest for allegedly abusing and corrupting minors, and her struggle to keep herself in the spotlight after the events.

Keller, who first found out about “La Trevi” while reading an article in the Los Angeles Times, took 10 years to research the story of the so called “Mexican Madonna,” who made it out of jail after living in hell for 5 years, dealing with abuse, and being confronted by the media.

Originally from Switzerland, Keller commented that it wasn’t easy to find the right actress to portray Gloria Trevi’s rebellious spirit: “I knew I had to find an actress that could incarnate that strength, that unique energy that Gloria has, and I am totally convinced that only Sofía Espinosa could’ve done that,” said the Director to Informador.

Despite the initial critiques that the pop icon made to Keller’s work, she is finally at peace with her past, and is giving him and Sofía all the support during this journey, “I am so stoked that Gloria finally saw the movie, and that she is recommending it. It is very hard to see a movie about your own life, and we didn’t ignore that,” Keller told the Mexican publication.

The star of the movie, Sofia Espinosa, admitted to be incredibly flattered by “La Trevi’s” comments about her interpretation, “This role’s biggest challenge was to separate myself from just doing an impersonation. Also singing, since I have never done it before.”

If you are in the McAllen or Los Angeles area, don’t miss out on the opportunity to find out the story behind Gloria Trevi, “The Mexican Madonna,” this summer.
