Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games behind “GTA Online” and “Red Dead Online” has spurred some attention on a potential “GTA 6” coming. Though a new installment has been speculated for some time now, there has been no word on whether a sixth installment is happening for now.

The focus for Take-Two and Rockstar Games right now is on “GTA Online” and “Red Dead Online.” The two properties have been doing well, somehow indicating that work on a “GTA 6” has either been at a snail’s pace or put on hold. However, the recent patent filings are perhaps the latest and credible update tied to the franchise.

Twitter user Big Jim Colosimo and Rockstart Intel discovered two new patents filed by Take-Two Interactive that suggests there may be some progress in the development of “GTA 6.” The patents cover session management systems and virtual environments.

For non-tech savvy individuals, session management is an online function that is tied to how effective a game can populate the multiplayer feature. It is a feature that could help improve the seamless transition between friends and prevent interruptions of service when disconnected.

The virtual environment patent, on the other hand, covers the improvements to the AI behaviors and how consoles can handle them. It would help refer to using dedicated servers to help with more advanced AI design rather than the hardware that's running the game.

The filing of patents by Take-Two Interactive may be something to think about although it does not immediately indicate that work is being done on a potential “GTA 6.” Such features have yet to be official announced and patents may or may not come to fruition.

What remains only clear is that Take-Two and Rockstar Games are broadening their technology to ensure that games continue to enjoy smooth gameplay. For now, “GTA Online” and “Red Dead Online” are keeping most busy, buying game developers some time with regards to another “GTA” game coming out in the open. Unfortunately, that may take a couple of more years.
