The terrifying details of how an 11-year-old who was playing ding dong ditch in Texas ended up being shot dead were revealed in court documents.

The incident happened on Saturday, when 11-year-old Julian Guzman and his cousin knocked on a door and ran away. Guzman was shot and killed while attempting to flee, ABC News reported.

Gonzalo Leon Jr., 42, was charged with murder on Sept. 1 and held on $1 million bond, Click 2 Houston reported.

According to court documents, Guzman's cousin told police they were at a birthday party in the neighborhood when they became bored and decided to play ding dong ditch. The game has recently been popularized on social media and involves ringing a doorbell or knocking on a door and running away.

Click 2 Houston added that the cousin told police they "knocked" on Leon Jr.'s door several times.

As they ran away the last time, the cousin reported hearing a gunshot and stopped to look back at the house, ABC News reported. He said he saw a man dressed in all black raise his arm and fire at them, hitting Guzman.

The outlet added that the cousin attempted to drag Guzman to safety while a neighbor came to help. According to the cousin, Leon Jr. then went back inside.

"We believe that this is an intentional and knowing act; this wasn't reckless behavior," District Attorney Sean Teare told Click 2 Houston. "This was a direct shot to the back of an 11-year-old who was running away, hence the murder charge."

Leon Jr. lived at the home with his wife and a young child. A search of Leon Jr.'s home turned up 20 firearms, ABC News reported. Leon Jr.

"Firearms and the use of firearms is not the answer. Whether you're on the freeway getting cut off or you're in your neighborhood angry at a group of kids, you can't utilize a gun, period," Teare told ABC News.
