Apart from the usual turkey recipe, why not change up a Thanksgiving classic - the green bean casserole! Here are five fairly quick and easy recipes that are sure to leave a lasting impression with your guests.

1. Green Bean Bacon Casserole Recipe

Servings: 6-8

Ingredients

2 cans whole green beans

½ cup French dressing

½ cup onions, chopped

9 strips of cooked bacon, crushed

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix chopped onions, whole green beans, and your French dressing, and spread it into a casserole dish. Now, sprinkle the crumbled bacon on top.

Bake for 30 minutes.

2. Green Bean Casserole Recipe With Caramelized Onions

Servings: 6

Cooking Time: 1 hour 10 min

Ingredients

For the topping

½ teaspoon canola oil

1 onion, sliced thinly

½ cup breadcrumbs

For the casserole

2 cups of milk

6 black peppercorns

1 bay leaf

A pinch of nutmeg

½ teaspoon canola oil

1 onion, chopped

3 cups of mushrooms, sliced

1 clove of garlic, finely chopped

¼ cup all-purpose flour

¼ cup sour cream

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon pepper

2 cups green beans

Instructions

Heat oil in a non-stick pan to make your onion topping. Add your sliced onion and keep stirring it to keep it from burning. Once it turns golden brown, set it aside.

Preheat the oven to 350-degree F. Now, take a baking sheet and spread your breadcrumbs. Toast it until it becomes slightly brown and then keep it aside.

For your sauce, take a saucepan and add your milk, peppercorns, bay leaf, and nutmeg while stirring over low heat. Once you start seeing the bubbles, set aside and strain the liquid.

Now, take the saucepan and heat the remaining oil. Add chopped onions and stir it until it turns golden. Then add sliced mushrooms and garlic. Cook it for 3-4 minutes. Add the flour to the mixture and give it a good mix. Now, add the strained milk and whisk. Once it boils, remove from heat. Lastly, whisk sour cream, salt, and pepper.

Finally, preheat the oven to 425-degrees F. Take a casserole dish and spread the green beans first, then the sauce, and onions and breadcrumbs at last. Bake it for 15 minutes, till it starts bubbling.

3. Cheesy Green Bean Casserole with Bacon

Servings: 6-8

Ingredients

4 bacon strips diced

1 onion diced

2 garlic cloves finely chopped

3 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 cup milk

1 cup cheddar cheese

1 cup fried onions

Instructions

Take a pan and cook the bacon. Once it begins to crisp, add your garlic. Once done, set the mixture aside.

Add flour to the bacon dripping and whisk well. To the mix, add your sour cream and the bacon with garlic. Keep stirring. Once it turns thick, remove it from heat.

Preheat the oven to 350-degree F. Now, take a casserole dish spread the beads and then the sauce. Top it with cheddar cheese and fried onions. Bake it for 30 minutes till it becomes golden brown.

4. Green Bean Potato Salad

Servings: 4

Cooking Time: 1 hour 15 min

Ingredients

12 small potatoes cut in half

Salt and pepper to taste

2 teaspoons dried oregano

½ extra-virgin olive oil

¼ cup pecans, chopped

1 cup green beans

¼ cup minced tarragon

1 tablespoon red wine vinegar

Dijon mustard

Garlic cloves chopped

Honey

Watercress

Goats cheese, a little less than 1 cup

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350-degrees F. Put your potatoes on a sheet pan and drizzle the olive oil. Season it with salt, pepper, and oregano. Roast it for about an hour.

Toast your pecans in the oven and also cook your green beans.

Now, take a bowl and whisk tarragon, mustard, honey, olive oil, and vinegar.

In a large bowl, mix the potatoes, beans, watercress, pecans, goat cheese, and the dressing.

5. Martha Stewart’s Green Bean Casserole

Servings: 6-8
Prep Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

6 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 onion, chopped

1 bell pepper, chopped

2 cups mushrooms, sliced

Salt and pepper

2 cups green beans

All-purpose flour

2 cups of milk

A pinch of nutmeg and cayenne pepper

1 cup parmesan cheese

¼ cup breadcrumbs

¼ cup canola oil

4 shallots cut into 1/4 -inch rings

Instructions

Take a pan and add two spoons of butter. And the onions and stir till it becomes translucent. Add, bell pepper and mushroom and cook until they become soft. Finally, add salt and pepper and keep it aside.

Add cooked beans into the mushroom mixture.

Taken a saucepan and add the remaining butter. To this, add ¼ cup of flour and whisk for about two minutes till it turns golden. Add milk and then whisk it more. Add nutmeg, cayenne pepper and black pepper to the mix. Once it starts boiling, remove it from heat.

Take a dish, place the bean mixture and pour the sauce on top. Finish it with grated cheese and breadcrumbs. Cook it for 10 minutes till it bubbles. Meanwhile, fry your shallots till they become golden brown.

Garnish it with fried shallots before you serve!
