The royal family lives quite differently from regular citizens, clearly having some intricacies either by tradition or due to each member’s own affinity. The Queen alone has some unique habits: being woken by bagpipes every morning, turning off every single light in Buckingham Palace, scrimping on some unusual things just to save some money, to name a few.

It comes as no surprise that the day-to-day activities of the royals become a question for most people. Although a heavy workload seems to be the general image that one would associate with royalty, a look into the royals’ various day-to-day activities may surprise you.

Queen Elizabeth II

The world’s oldest and longest-reigning monarch is currently the busiest of all the royals. Aside from attending 283 events last year, the Queen is drowning with paperwork and letters, most of which she has to run through in the morning. She has to balance this with meetings with important personalities.

She is also known to be very organized, reportedly allotting only 20 minutes on each task. She then takes her beloved corgis to a walk as soon as her morning duties are done. In the evening, she reads through a report of the day’s parliamentary proceedings.

Prince Charles

The heir apparent went through 507 events last year, implying that he had to attend multiple engagements to represent the crown in a day. Apart from the paperwork that he has to go through just like his mother, he also heads up 13 Prince’s Charities, including The Prince’s Trust, The British Asian Trust and Business in the Community. The Prince of Wales is also an avid supporter of the arts, spending his evenings at public events such as concerts.

In his free time, he dabbles in gardening and his beloved watercolors. He reportedly paints at every opportunity, even bringing his paints wherever he travels.

After quitting his job as an air ambulance pilot, the Duke of Cambridge now spends a majority of his time filling his share of the 2,000 official engagements that the royal family has to attend. Aside from this, the prince spends his free time being a good father to his children, focusing his time on his family.

“I’m a new father and I take my duties and my responsibilities to my family very seriously and I want to bring my children up as good people with the idea of service and duty to others as very important,” he said.

Prince Harry

The Duke of Sussex is known for his philanthropism — which he got from his mother, Princess Diana — even famously organizing the Invictus Games for wounded servicemen. He works with numerous charities, focused on making the world a better place, along with his wife Meghan Markle. The two have been laying low ever since the birth of their child, presumably focusing on their family, much like his brother, Prince William.
