Sarah Ferguson recently compared herself with Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle. The Duchess of York poked fun at the two duchesses amid rumors of an ongoing feud.

While accepting the Inspiration of the Year award for her services to charity, Sarah gave a speech on stage. The founder of Street Child UK went up to the stage and upon reaching the microphone, she uttered a joke.

“Maybe you’d prefer one of the other Duchesses?” she said. The question left the crowds in hysterics.

Sarah wasn’t really throwing shade at Kate and Meghan. Rather, she is simply aware of how popular the two female royals have become. Several years ago, Sarah and Princess Diana were the most talked-about royals. They were also best friends before they had a falling out.

But today, Kate and Meghan are the two most popular royals of their generation. However, recent reports have been focusing more on their alleged feud. Speculations about the feud became worse after it was reported that Prince Harry and Meghan will split from Prince William and Kate’s Royal Foundation.

Meanwhile, aside from being best friends and the most talked-about royals before, it has recently been revealed that Princess Diana and Sarah are actually related. The two female royals are actually fourth cousins. Their shared ancestor is Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire.

Other than their blood connection, Princess Diana and Sarah have also known each other even before they both became royals. This is because their moms, France Shand Kydd and Susan Barrantes, were friends from their school days.

It has also been confirmed that Princess Diana was the one that introduced Sarah to Prince Andrew when they attended the Royal Ascot in 1985. One year later, the Duke and Duchess of York decided to tie the knot.

But just a few years after the royal couple’s wedding, Sarah Ferguson and Princess Diana’s relationship became strained. During an interview with Andrew Morton, the Princess of Wales indirectly said that she was jealous of Sarah.

Prince Charles’ ex-wife told the royal biographer that Sarah managed to woo the entire royal family and did it so well. But this also left Princess Diana looking like “dirt.”
